A journalist has revealed the details of when Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan almost signed for Reading, revealing how he threatened somebody in the boardroom after being told he had failed his medical at the Madejski Stadium.

Gyan announced his decision to retire from international football yesterday, just one month before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, after he was stripped of the Ghana captaincy.

It has since been reported that Ghana's all-time leading goal-scoring has changed his mind, less than 24 hours after he dramatically quit the national team.

Charles Watts, a sports journalist, formerly of the Reading Post, reacted to the news on social media, revealing that Gyan once threatened legal action against him, after he reported that the Ghana striker had failed his medial at Reading.

Gyan reportedly came close to signing for Reading from Chinese side Shanghai SIPG in 2016, but failed his medical at the Madejski Stadium and eventually joined joined United Arab Emirates club Al Ahli on loan.

Watts revealed that the striker reacted angrily by threatening somebody in the boardroom, after he was told that he was two months away from fitness and not worth the money.

The Verdict:

Gyan seems like quite a dramatic character given his recent decision to announce his retirement from international football, only to change his mind less than 24 hours later.

This is outrageous behaviour though and it's probably a good thing for Reading that they did not end up signing him.
