Sheffield United are keen on Blackburn's Darragh Lenihan - but they may be priced out of a move for the no-nonsense defender.

That's according to Sun reporter Alan Nixon who confirmed the Blades interest on twitter earlier today.

"Sheff U like Lenihan. But think he will cost a bit too much."

The Irishman has been a key performer for Rovers over the past few years and he has impressed this season with many strong displays, so it's easy to see why the newly-promoted side will be keen on the player.

Lenihan played 34 games for Tony Mowbray's men this season, scoring in the final day 2-2 draw against Swansea yesterday.

Chris Wilder's side secured a return to the Premier League last week and he will be looking to add to his squad to help them as they seek to establish themselves as a top-flight side.

The boyhood fan has often kept his recruitment to domestic signings so this would fit the bill but the Blades clearly won't be held to ransom by selling clubs despite the financial boost of promotion.

The Verdict

Lenihan would be an ideal signing for Sheffield United and you could see him slotting in easily to the back three that Wilder uses.

However, the price appears it will be an issue and you can understand why Blackburn are determined to hold on to such a key player for the team.

You'd imagine a move to the top-flight will appeal to Lenihan but ultimately if a deal can't be agreed the Blades will have to look elsewhere.
