Leeds United are on the lookout for a new boss after Paul Heckingbottom was sacked by the Yorkshire club this afternoon.

The former Barnsley boss was removed from his post after just four months in charge at Elland Road but he did fail to make a positive impact, winning only four of his 16 games in charge.

That prompted owner Andrea Radrizzani to make the decision today and attention has now turned to who will replace Heckingbottom.

The surprising early front-runner is Argentinian Marcelo Bielsa, whilst BBC journalist Adam Pope revealed that he has heard of other foreign managers who could take the job.

He mentioned Claudio Ranieri, Michael Laudrup and Víctor Sánchez del Amo as contenders, along with Bielsa, for the vacant role:

Ranieri and Laudrup will be well-known to Leeds fans having worked in the Premier League before, whilst Sanchez is someone who the club considered 12 months ago.

He has had spells in charge of Deportivo, Olympiacos and Real Betis although he has struggled on each occasion.

The Verdict

This is a crucial appointment for Leeds and Radrizzani and one they need to get right if they are to challenge for promotion.

If they managed to get a Laudrup or Bielsa it would be a remarkable appointment for a Championship side and they would be the two standout options in the eyes of most fans.

With the transfer window open and clubs beginning to make moves, Leeds need to act swiftly but more importantly end up with the right man.
