Middlesbrough are considering Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley as a replacement for Tony Pulis, according to a reliable journalist.

Boro are looking for a new manager, after the Championship club parted company with Pulis this morning, after he failed to win promotion to the Premier League this season.

Nick Mashiter, a football journalist for Press Association Sport, delivered the update on his personal Twitter account.

West Brom are reportedly also considering Danny Cowley as a permanent replacement for Darren Moore, who was sacked in March, with the club nine points outside the automatic promotion places.

Cowley has won two promotions in three seasons at Lincoln, guiding the club from the National League to League One and helped them win the League Two title this season.

The Verdict:

This is a very interesting update. Cowley is a very good manager and has done an excellent job with Lincoln City over the past few seasons, so it is perhaps not surprising that he has attracted interest from Championship clubs.

He could be a good appointment for both teams, although it is quite a step up from League Two to the Championship and the expectations would be much higher at Middlesbrough and West Brom than at Lincoln.
