Following Wednesday morning' confirmation that the club will be placed into administration , it seems as though Bolton's plans for a return to League One are in tatters, with the club now facing the prospect of heading into the season with next to no players available for selection.

That's the suggestion that has been made by journalist Alan Nixon, who following the news of administration and a further adjournment of the high court hearing against the club until the 22nd May, revealed that the players and staff at the club will not be paid until at least that date.

After Nixon was then asked by a fan about the stance of the Bolton squad with regards to handing their notices in due to their wages not being paid, he responded by claiming that it is all likely "All but a couple" of the squad will leave the club, asking if they could be blamed for doing so.

The verdict

This is as concerning as anything for Bolton.

With the majority of the current side set to leave, and the situation as it is, it seems incredibly difficult to envisage any players wanting to join the club in its current situation, and if that continue to be the case, it is nigh on impossible to see them competing in League One next season.

Even if they are able to get a squad together, you can't imagine it will have had much time to gel before the start of next season, and with the club now set to face sanctions over both administration and the postponement of their home game with Brentford, they will have to climb a mountain simply to stay in the division next season.
