Sheffield Wednesday are still set to appoint Steve Bruce as their new manager as they look for a successor to Jos Luhukay.

The ex-Gladbach boss was sacked before Christmas and the experienced Bruce was the hot favourite to replace him.

Reports emerged over the weekend suggesting a deal was imminent for the former Aston Villa boss to take over at Hillsborough, however, Lee Bullen has been in temporary charge for the past two games.

And, the former player has been very successful, guiding the side to successive victories which has significantly eased any relegation concerns.

That led to some calls for Bullen to be given a longer run in charge and with Bruce still to be announced as boss it seemed as though it could be a possibility.

However, journalist Alan Nixon has provided the latest on the situation, revealing that Bruce is still likely to take the job in the coming days when asked.

It would be a quick return to football for the 57-year-old who was only sacked by Villa in December.

The Verdict

Even though Bullen has done superbly since taking over, this is a big appointment for Wednesday and Bruce looks a safer choice.

Given that, fans are sure to be pleased by this latest update as it still seems a matter of time before he is announced.

He has proven himself at this level time and time again over the years and he will see this as a great chance to turn a big club around.
