Derby County and Birmingham City have ended their interest in Hibernian midfielder John McGinn, amid Celtic transfer speculation.

According to a tweet by sports journalist Alan Nixon, the 23-year-old was a target for both the Rams and the Blues this summer, but the Scottish international looks set for a move to Celtic Park.

The tweet stated: “Derby and Birmingham were keen ... but message came back that he would head for Celtic.”

McGinn made 43 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish Premiership side, scoring six goals and contributing with eight assists.

New Derby boss Frank Lampard is said to have been willing to pay around £3m for the box to box midfielder, who has one year left on his contract.

McGinn has represented Scotland across multiple youth levels, before going on to play at full international level for his country on nine occasions.

The Verdict

Championship sides Derby and Birmingham have ended their interest in McGinn, after he looks set to sign for Scottish Premiership Champions Celtic, which is a blow for both teams.

The midfielder has bags of ability and even more potential to get better throughout the years.

Already having represented Scotland at international level, as well as being Glasgow born, it is unsurprising that the youngster is edging towards a move to Celtic.
