Even though it's going to be a tough summer for Aston Villa, the club are on the lookout for new players to boost Steve Bruce's squad and are interested in Dan Burn.

The Wigan centre-back, who was crucial to the Latics promotion last season, has been linked with a move to Villa Park in recent weeks.

And, journalist Alan Nixon revealed that Villa are keen on the player but added that there are a lot of potential stumbling blocks to the deal.

Firstly, Nixon stated that Wigan are not going to sell without a big fee and that will obviously be hard for Villa at the moment given their financial situation.

However, as the update says, Villa are expecting to move on a lot of players in the coming weeks and they could fetch some big fees.

That includes the likes of Jack Grealish, James Chester and Albert Adomah, who could all fetch decent fees, particularly the first two players.

Once that happens it may give the West Midlands side more freedom in the market, which could make Burn a target.

The Verdict

Villa are set to lose a lot of players and they need replacements lined up and Burn would be a good option at centre-back.

You'd still have doubts about whether they could afford him but they will need to back Bruce in whatever way they can and new players are needed.

Obviously though, nothing is going to be imminent and it will depend on the fees they get in for their star men.
