A rival bidder has emerged to try and complete a takeover of Championship strugglers Bolton Wanderers.

That's according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, who provided the latest on twitter this afternoon in news that will please Bolton supporters who are desperate to see the club sold.

"BOLTON. Now I didn’t see this coming. But there IS a genuine rival bidder. And they think they can nick in ahead of The Basran Boys. More follows when details available."

Last week it emerged that businessman Parminder Basran was close to buying the Trotters for around £27m, however there have been a lot of twists and turns since then.

Primarily, his interest appeared to have cooled, which left the club in a very difficult situation.

They had to close the training ground yesterday whilst players and staff have still not been paid their February salary.

Therefore, current owner Ken Anderson is understandably coming in for severe criticism because of how this has played out.

On the pitch, Phil Parkinson's men are currently seven points from safety and second from bottom in the Championship.

The Verdict

This is good news for Bolton and also a surprise as it appeared that negotiations had stalled with previous parties and the club were in a dire position.

Obviously, this news is just breaking so it will be interesting to see who is behind the bid and Trotters fans will be hoping that it's genuine.

The last few days have been an embarrassment for the club and they just need this solved as soon as possible, with Anderson moving on.
