Aston Villa may struggle to complete the permanent signing of Tyrone Mings after his remarkable end to the season that helped Dean Smith's side secure promotion.

The centre-back arrived from Bournemouth in January and immediately transformed what had been a struggling Villa defence.

He was a key reason behind a club-record ten successive wins and played his part in the play-offs, which concluded with victory over Derby at Wembley on Monday.

Mings has clearly enjoyed his time at the club and following promotion many felt a deal would be straightforward. However, journalist Alan Nixon provided an update that suggests it won't be straightforward due to several reasons.

"He’s got his fitness and he’s back in the public eye. No reason why can’t play for Bournemouth. Villa would obviously love him. But suddenly that’s expensive."

The Cherries have struggled defensively in recent seasons but the former Ipswich man hasn't been given a regular run in the team, with injuries not helping him at all.

Left-sided defender Lloyd Kelly has signed for Bournemouth already in this window which would seemingly knock Mings down the pecking order though.

The Verdict

This will be a worry for Villa as anyone who saw the side play will recognise just how important Mings is to the team.

But, as Nixon says, that form will have caught the eye of several clubs and Bournemouth will think he can do a job for them playing like that.

Even if they did still want to sell, his value has certainly increased so whilst the player and Villa will want a deal, there could be a few complications ahead.
