Birmingham City look set to back Steve Cotterill for now, after the club’s owners flew into the UK to discuss the managerial position at St Andrew’s.

Reliable journalist Alan Nixon has been providing updates on Cotterill’s future on Twitter, most recently confirming that Birmingham look set to back their manager for now.

Cotterill’s position has come under threat, with Birmingham slipping into the Sky Bet Championship’s relegation zone following four consecutive defeats.

The Blues have failed to score a goal in those four outings, which has left them 22nd and two points adrift of safety heading into the final 12 fixtures of the season.

Cotterill looks set to hang onto his job for the meantime, with Nixon confirming that despite Birmingham’s owners flying to the UK for talks, they plan on backing him for now.

The Blues are back in Championship action over the weekend, with Cotterill’s side looking for a first win in four when they face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.

Following Saturday, Birmingham face Middlesbrough and Cardiff City, who both have promotion ambitions, before clashing with fellow relegation candidates Hull City before March’s international break.

The Verdict

Cotterill is under pressure at St Andrew’s, there is no doubt about it, with Birmingham firmly in a relegation battle.

The Blues are in a really poor run of form, with their performances over the last four fixtures not encouraging at all.

Things need to change quickly.
