Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on 21-year-old QPR playmaker Ebere Eze but the jump up from the Championship side may be too big, according to Lyall Thomas from Sky Sports

Eze has been phenomenal for the R's in the 2019/20 season, scoring 12 times and providing eights assists in his 37 appearances for the club.

The 21-year-old has responded fantastically well to the responsibility of being QPR's key man in the final third this season.

The London-born attacking midfielder has been linked with a move away throughout the current campaign, with recent reports suggesting that Tottenham were favourites to sign him.

It is understood that Crystal Palace and Sheffield United are also interested but that the £20 million price tag has put both sides off.

In a Q&A for Sky Sports, Thomas was pressed on Tottenham's interest in Eze and provided some insight into the potential move.

He said: "Eberechi Eze is good young talent and Spurs like him but it might be too big a jump for him from QPR."

Eze arrived at the west London club in 2016, signing from Millwall as a youth player.

He impressed on loan at Wycombe Wanderers during the first half of the 2017/18 season and has been in and around the first team since returning to QPR in January 2018.

The 21-year-old was a key player last season, missing just four of his side's Championship games, but has stepped his game up a level this term – tripling his goal tally and doubling his number of assists already.

The Verdict

This is an interesting insight into Spurs' interest in Eze and suggests that it could cool during the summer window.

They have raided the Championship twice in recent years, signing Jack Clarke from Leeds United and Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham, so there is certainly precedent for such a move.

The jury remains out on both those players, which may persuade the Premier League club to hold off on pulling the trigger on another slightly speculative move.
