A deal to bring Marcelo Bielsa to Leeds United has been agreed, according to journalist Jason Pettigrove.

The only issue is ensuring Bielsa gets a work permit, which is highly likely to happen.

He is a vastly experienced manager with nearly three decades worth of management on his CV, which has seen him work in three different continents. Managers such as Pep Guardiola and Jorge Sampaoli have built on his ideas with tremendous success, although Bielsa hasn't been able to match that.

Bielsa is yet to manage in England, so how his ideas interact with English football will be fascinating to see for Leeds fans and neutrals alike. Leeds finished 13th last season, so they will be aiming for a play-off push as the minimum.

Therefore, there will be a lot of pressure on him and his methods especially after his disastrous spell with Lille.

The Verdict

Leeds have committed to what is likely to be a fascinating spell with one of the biggest mavericks in football. Whether it will be successful or not is hard to tell. However, they will certainly be one of the best sides to watch because his style is thrilling, but it can also be very open if his team is struggling to adapt to his ideas or they are fatigued due to the high physical demands.

This is certainly an ambitious move, so Leeds fans can't complain about pragmatism and cautiousness dominating the board's decision-making. However, they have to be careful what they wish for because significant overhaul is likely this summer and it could fail to produce results.
