Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United are expected to complete the signing of Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla next week, according to a report from reliable journalist Guillem Balague.

The Whites have recently been linked with a move to sign the 32-year old, who has fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu - falling behind Thibaut Courtois and Keylor Navas in the pecking order over in La Liga.

And according to Spanish football specialist and Balague, the deal is "gathering pace", with the signing expected to be completed "next week".

Marcelo Bielsa's men are in the market for a goalkeeper to rival Bailey Peacock-Farrell at Elland Road - youngster Will Huffer has had to play backup after Jamal Blackman saw his loan spell be cut short at Elland Road from Chelsea, after breaking his leg in November. They had been linked with a move to sign Newcastle's Karl Darlow, but a move for the Spaniard now seems to be their main priority.

The Whites sit at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table, four points clear of 3rd position after an impressive 2-0 home win over Derby County on Friday night.

The Verdict

What a signing Casilla would be for Leeds - he was playing Champions League football not long ago but could now be on his way to the second tier of English football.

He's an experienced goalkeeper with so much quality, and he could be the perfect mentor for Peacock-Farrell who has looked shaky at times this season.

This could be a huge signing for Leeds in their bid for promotion.
