Aston Villa defender Ahmed Elmohamady is likely to miss the Championship play-off final this Saturday through injury.

According to Gregg Evans, sports writer for the Birmingham Mail, the Egyptian international will have a late check before the final, but is unlikely to feature.

Evans tweeted: “Ahmed Elmohamady still a doubt for #avfc in the play off final. Chance he could make it but will need a late check. #ffc”

Elmohamady picked up a knock in the first leg of the play-off semi-final at the Riverside, subsequently missing the second leg.

Whether the 30-year-old recovers in time for this match at Wembley will have to wait and see, but Steve Bruce’s side could do with the defensive veteran in their side, to give them a chance of reaching the Premier League.

Villa will go into the game as underdogs, as Slavisa Jokanovic’s side have been almost unstoppable in the latter stages of the season.

The Verdict

The injury to Ahmed Elmohamady is a real blow for Steve Bruce’s side, as he has been a constant in their defensive line this season, having made 45 appearances throughout all competitions.

In his absence, it leaves James Bree as his likely replacement, who has just four Championship starts to his name this season.

Aston Villa will just have to hope that the Egptian can pull through and recover in time for the important match at Wembley.
