Sheffield United may struggled to sign on-loan striker Scott Hogan on a permanent transfer in the summer because of his wages, according to the journalist Alan Nixon.

The 27-year-old is on loan at Bramall Lane from Championship rivals Aston Villa and scored his second goal for the Blades in the 2-0 win over Ipswich Town at the weekend.

Hogan joined the Blades in January, signing a loan deal until the end of the season, after making just six Championship appearances for Villa during the first half of the campaign.

When asked if Hogan is likely to sign join the Blades on a permanent deal in the summer, Nixon replied with this message:

Nixon confirmed that Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder will be looking to strengthen his squad in the summer, but said the club do not want to smash their wage structure, which could prevent them from signing Hogan.

The Blades' automatic promotion to the Premier League was confirmed on Sunday, when promotion rivals Leeds United drew at home with Villa.

The Verdict

Wilder will be looking to considerably strengthen his squad in the summer, as the club prepare for their first season in the Premier League since 2006-07.

Now they are a Premier League club again, Sheffield United will be able to attract the better players from the Championship.

However, Wilder won't want to upset the balance he has within his squad too much.
