Reading still have a lot of work to do in order to land midfielder Jay Fulton from fellow Championship side Swansea City.

The 24-year old emerged as a target for the Royals earlier in the month but a deal wasn't completed before the deadline passed.

Any deal wasn't helped by the fact that the Welsh side had failed to bring in Ryan Woods from Brentford, who was seen as a replacement for Fulton.

However, EFL clubs still have until the end of the month to sign players and loan and Paul Clement's men had explored the idea of bringing him in on loan.

And, Sun journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that whilst a deal is not dead, the two clubs are still some way away from agreeing a deal for the former Falkirk man.

It would be surprise if the former Scotland U21 international was allowed to leave the Liberty Stadium as he has enjoyed a fine start to the season.

Fulton has played in both league games, which Graham Potter's men have won, and scored the only goal against Preston last time out.

The Verdict

Given Swansea's and Fulton's performances in the opening two games, it would be highly surprising to see them sanction a move for the midfielder.

Potter doesn't have the biggest squad to work with anyway, so the priority at the minute will surely be bringing in new players.

If they land a few of their major targets then Fulton may be allowed to leave but it's hard to see this happening.
