Leeds United are interested in Derby County's Louie Sibley, although any potential deal is still a long way off due to the fee the youngster would command.

The 19-year-old was a real breakthrough star for the Rams last season, grasping the chance that Phillip Cocu gave him and he responded by scoring five goals in 11 games, including a magnificent hat-trick in a win at Millwall.

As a result, Sibley has been a regular this season but his form has caught the eye of others and Football Insider revealed this morning that Leeds United want the player.

And, The Athletic reporter Ryan Conway has provided the latest on this situation as he confirmed the Whites' interest but he also cooled the idea that a deal is even close to being agreed.

"As is being reported, Leeds United have made their liking of Louie Sibley known. It’s unclear if they’d have the budget to make any official approach, though. So, at this stage, the interest isn’t too intense."

The Premier League side have until Friday evening to reach an agreement with Derby if they are to finalise a move in this window.

The verdict

This will be a slightly more encouraging update for Derby fans because whilst it confirms Leeds' interest, it suggests nothing is imminent and the deadline is in sight.

Given the way the transfer market has played out in recent months, the Rams would be right to demand a massive fee for Sibley as he is a huge talent.

So, if Leeds are serious they need to lodge a significant bid, otherwise Sibley will remain at Pride Park, which seems the most likely outcome.
