Bolton Wanderers are expected to go into administration before the end of this week.

Alan Nixon, a reliable journalist for The Sun, delivered the update via social media with this message on his personal Twitter account.

The football club appeared in High Court yesterday, over a winding-up petition issued by HM Revenue & Customs over an unpaid tax bill of £1.2million and were expected to be placed into administration then.

The club's owner Ken Anderson has been under pressure to sell the club for weeks, after the court case had already been adjourned twice and former Watford owner Laurence Bassini was expected to complete a takeover.

The deal for Bassini to buy the club collapsed earlier this week, as Bassini failed to provide proof of funding, leaving the club in a very difficult position.

Anderson issued a statement yesterday, saying that Bassini had wasted his time and that he had been left with "little or no choice" but to place in the club into administration.

The court case was then adjourned until May 22, allowing time for an administrator to be appointed and Nixon has now revealed that club are expected to be placed into administration this week.

The Verdict

This is worrying news for Bolton Wanderers, after what has been a terrible season both on and off the field.

Administration has been expected for a while now and will not come as a major surprise to people connected with the club.

If the club are placed into administration, which seems an inevitability now, it will mean that they will start next season in League One with a points deduction.
