Sheffield Wednesday have been handed some positive news on the injury front after Tom Lees was seen out running ahead of a return to training.

The influential centre-back hasn’t played since late November where he was struggling with a groin injury.

Since then, Lees has seen a specialist and finally looks to be getting back to fitness.

A video from Sheffield Star journalist Dom Howson shows the defender doing a few laps at the Owls training pitches this afternoon.

This will be welcome news to new boss Jos Luhukay who has joined Wednesday in the middle of an extraordinary injury crisis.

As well as Lees, key players such as Barry Bannan, Kieran Lee, Kieran Westwood, Fernando Forestieri and Sam Hutchinson are on the treatment table.

Despite the long list of absentees, Luhukay has managed to enjoy a very strong start to life in England, with Wednesday unbeaten in his four games. And, that has been built on a strong defence, with an own goal on Friday the first his side have conceded.

The Verdict

Even though the Wednesday defence have looked organised and resolute under the new boss, there’s no doubt Tom Lees would bring a lot to this team.

Lees has proven himself to be a top Championship defender and Luhukay will be looking forward to working with him.

The ex-Gladbach boss will also want all his injured players back so he can assess his squad properly ahead of the summer and fortunately it seems he won’t have to wait too long to see Lees.
