Brentford last night accepted an offer from an as-yet unnamed club for Dutch winger Florian Jozefzoon, a move likely to spark a bidding war.

Journalist Phil Hay tweeted that although the club wasn't thought to be Leeds United, he now thought they 'could get involved' due to their admiration of the 27-year old.

Derby County have also been interested in the former PSV player, having a £1.5m bid turned down last month. They were thought to be preparing a second bid although there is no indication at this stage they are the unnamed club.

Jozefzoon, a product of the Ajax academy, has played 62 games for the Bees and scored eight goals. He made 43 appearances last season, scoring seven times.

He joined Brentford in January 2017 for an undisclosed fee from PSV Eindhoven. He had falling down the pecking order with the Dutch giants after an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Jozefzoon has Netherlands U19 and U21 honours, but has failed to break into the senior side.

The Verdict

If Leeds do get involved it could be an astute signing, but they don't want to find themselves battling Derby County for his signature.

He is the sort of player Leeds' need; Championship proven and creative but not likely to break the bank. we've just seen the first shots fired in an interesting transfer saga.
