Journalist makes transfer claim involving Middlesbrough and Rangers

Football journalist Alan Nixon has taken to Twitter to claim that he is yet to have heard anything about Middlesbrough’s apparent interest in signing Glasgow Rangers midfielder John Lundstram.

The former Sheffield United man used to play under Chris Wilder during the duo’s time at Bramall Lane and has since been linked with a move to his former manager’s new side, Boro.

Lundstram has played 23 times for Rangers since moving north of the border last summer and has found himself being in and out of the team of late, meaning there could well be some frustration growing their for the player.

Now Nixon has responded to a question from a fan who wanted to know if Middlesbrough’s supposed interest in the midfielder was legitimate:

The 27-year-old previously played a total of over 100 games under Wilder whilst at Sheffield United and would surely relish the chance to link up with his old gaffer once more.

Quiz: Can you name which club Middlesbrough signed these 28 midfielders from?

Martín Payero?

Lundstram has a contract at Ibrox which runs until the summer of 2024, meaning it could take a fair amount of money in order for Boro to get their man.

The Verdict

It remains to be seen as to whether Middlesbrough are actually interested in the player in question or not but there is no doubting that it would be a good deal if it proved to be true.

Lundstram is a player who knows the Football League like the back of his hand and he would no doubt slot seamlessly into Wilder’s system of play.

He isn’t starting regularly for the Gers, so now would be the ideal time for Boro to test the Scottish club with a bid for him in the near future.

It would be interesting to see if Wilder can pull this off, especially after already having such a bright window so far.
