Respected Leeds United correspondent Phil Hay has issued an update on their chase for Everton midfielder Mo Besic.

Hay has described the deal as a 'non-runner'  despite other outlets stating that Marcelo Bielsa is in the hunt for the £4.5m rated midfielder.

Everton man Besic spent half of last season on loan in the Championship with Tony Pulis' Middlesbrough, playing 17 times in all competitions. He's been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road in recent days.

He started his career in Germany with Hamburg before switching to Ferencvaros in Hungary. It was there he earned a reputation as a tough-tackling midfielder and that prompted Everton to pay around £4m for his services.

He's made 37 Premier League appearances in four seasons at Goodison, with just two coming in the past two seasons.

He is a full international for Bosnia and Herzegovina, playing 31 times for them over his eight-year international career.

He now looks destined to remain in the Premier League with Everton, unless another Championship move materialises today.

The Verdict

Besic is a good solid midfielder and news he isn't signing for Leeds will be something of a disappointment to some.

He proved his ability with Boro last season and can certainly cut it in the Championship.

Bielsa won't buy for the sake of it though and he clearly feels his current midfield offering is adequate.
