There is another party interested in taking over at Bolton Wanderers if the ongoing takeover negotiations with the current bidder fall through, it has been claimed.

On Wednesday, the club were handed a two week adjournment to a hearing over a winding up petition brought against Bolton by HMRC, after the club revealed they has someone interested in buying the club who would be able to pay off its debts.

Now it has emerged that there is another bidder waiting to potentially step in should the current negotiations collapsed, Journalist Alan Nixon reported on Twitter on Friday morning.

The club now have until the 3rd April to get a takeover confirmed before they return to the high court to face the HMRC petition once more.

On the pitch, Bolton currently lie 23rd in the Championship, eight points adrift of safety, and looked destined for relegation to League One with just eight games of the season remaining.

The verdict

While they will hope that interest from one party doesn't impact on negotiations with the other, it should be reassuring for Bolton fans to know that club appear to have options when it comes to finding ways to survive.

The only question is: why did it take so long for any of them to express their interest?
