Sun journalist Alan Nixon has tweeted that Sheffield United are willing to break the bank to land their latest loan target, even for a one-season temporary deal.

The Blades, who have been linked with a move for Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan, are said to be in the market for a centre forward and Nixon has confirmed they're willing to pay "big wages" for their current target.

He goes on to say that it will be the "biggest ever forked out" by Chris Wilder's side as they look to correct a tough start to the current campaign.

They've also been linked with a swoop for Southampton striker Sam Gallagher as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the loan window closing in a little under two weeks.

The Blades have won two and lost two of their opening four league fixtures, as well as being eliminated from the Carabao Cup on penalties against Hull City.

This weekend they beat Norwich City 2-1, courtesy of an injury time winner from club legend Billy Sharp.

The Verdict

The Blades need a forward to add to the increasingly creaky looking offering of Clarke, Sharp and McGoldrick. Hogan would be just the tonic, he scored a hatful for Brentford but has endured a nightmare at Villa.

Whoever it is, Wilder knows his season hinges on being able to bring in a player likely to bag 15 to 20 goals this season. If he manages it, they could challenge the top six. fail and it will be a long season ahead.
