Middlesbrough are reportedly interested in a deal to sign Bristol City forward Famara Diedhiou according to The Bristol Post.

Diedhiou has been with the Robins since 2017, after arriving from French side Angers. He has gone on to score 51 goals in 169 appearances in total for Bristol City so far, although he's found regular starts in this year's league campaign hard to find compared to previous seasons.

The 28-year-old has made 45 appearances in all competitions this term, although 23 of those have been starts in the Championship, which will be slightly frustrating for the forward.

A move to Middlesbrough could tempt Diedhiou as well, with Neil Warnock's side currently sat ninth in the second-tier standings.

He is out-of-contract at the end of this year's campaign, and as the days go on with no agreement between Diedhiou and Bristol City, the harder it is believed that he'll sign a new deal with the club.

Bristol Live's reporter Gregor MacGregor and James Piercy have issued an update from the Bristol City side of any potential deal, and claim that Diedhiou is open to staying with the Robins, but the uncertainty behind the scenes is making an agreement tough to reach.

"Diedhiou could still elect to stay at Bristol City beyond this season, Bristol Live understands, but the uncertainty behind the scenes at the club is making that an increasingly unlikely possibility.

"The Senegal international has an offer on the table, dating back to last summer, but there has been little indication he has any desire to sign it amid growing interest from Championship clubs and overseas.

"Diedhiou is open to the idea of staying in Bristol having settled in the city since arriving from Angers in 2017 but contact between his representatives and the club is said to have been silent for a number of weeks now."

Diedhiou and his Bristol City team-mates are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on Millwall, in what is likely to be another tricky test for Nigel Pearson's side.

The Verdict:

It wouldn't come as a surprise to see Diedhiou heading for the Ashton Gate exit door in the near future.

I've been impressed with what I've seen from the Bristol City forward in recent seasons, but I think he would have signed a new deal by now if he wanted to stick around.

He could be the ideal signing for Middlesbrough as well, as Neil Warnock will be looking to add a striker into his squad, with Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher set to depart at the end of the 2020/21 season.

It's a move that would surely work for all parties, as he hasn't been a regular in the Bristol City starting XI this term.
