Barnsley's decision to part company with Daniel Stendel early into the international break didn't sit well with some of the Oakwell faithful.

Stendel guided the Yorkshire-based club to promotion back into the Championship in his first season in charge, but struggled to build on that momentum in this year's campaign.

He departed with just one win to his name this season, which came against Fulham on the opening day, which has seen Barnsley slide down the table and into the relegation zone.

BBC Sheffield journalist Andy Giddings provided an important update into Barnsley's search to find a new manager, and insists that the Tykes are in no rush to appoint Stendel's successor.

According to the Barnsley Chronicle, the Tykes are targeting Steve Cherundolo as one of the potential successors to Stendel, although it remains to be seen as to whether talks have begun between both parties.

They'll be keen to get this appointment spot on though, as they could be heading straight back into the third tier of English football if results don't improve soon.

Barnsley will have to turn their attentions to matters on the pitch this weekend though, and it couldn't get much tougher with the Tykes hosting high-flying Swansea City on Saturday.

The Verdict:

It's good to see that they've held discussions over appointing a new manager.

I still think that Barnsley could have had a permanent successor to Daniel Stendel in place earlier than this, but they'll be keen to get this appointment right.

If they get it wrong, then it seems almost certain that they'll be dropping straight back into League One this season after winning promotion to the second tier last term.

They can't afford to get it wrong, otherwise it'll be a disaster for everyone associated with the club.
