Sheffield United transfer targets Scott Hogan from Aston Villa and Middlesbrough’s Ashley Fletcher are unlikely to make the move to Bramall Lane this summer.

According to a tweet from sports journalist Alan Nixon, issues over wages and availability have arisen for Chris Wilder’s side, amid the search for a new centre forward.

The tweet stated: “SHEFF U. Getting more frustration in striker search. Hogan can't go without VILLA signing one. And cost of Fletcher at BORO higher than expected.”

Sheffield United have started the season with three wins from their opening five fixtures of the 2018/19 Championship season, finding the net on eight occasions, but are interested in the loan signing of a new front man.

Hogan, who scored for goals in 21 league appearances for Steve Bruce’s side last season, is a top target for the Blades, but is unlikely to join Sheffield United unless the Claret and Blue Army sign a new striker of their own.

Middlesbrough’s Ashley Fletcher is also considered an option for Wilder’s side, but with his wage bill higher than first thought, it could be an issue.

The Verdict

Sheffield United have left it late to secure the loan signing of a new centre forward.

Both Hogan and Fletcher would be terrific additions to the Blades squad, but with time running out and more issues arising, it may be too late for Chris Wilder’s side.

United have started the season strongly, but will need to bolster their squad in the closing stages
