Birmingham City will find out "very soon" what punishment the club will face for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations, in what is a "massive issue" according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The Blues are facing a twelve point deduction for their breach of FFP, though it is not yet clear whether the points deduction would come into effect this season or next season, due to how late in the campaign it now is.

In what could be a worrying development for Birmingham fans however, journalist Alan Nixon has given an update that suggests Birmingham could discover their fate sooner rather than later, and not for the better.

Responding to a question about when the EFL would inform Birmingham of their decision, Nixon's response that the announcement coming "very soon" will create a "massive issue" could suggest that a points deduction is incoming for Birmingham this season.

The reason that this is such a big issue is that a twelve point deduction for The Blues would leave them just two points clear of the relegation zone with just eight games remaining in the season, turning them from playoff outsiders to relegation battlers in the blink of an eye.

The verdict

While Birmingham should still have enough to avoid the drop to League One even with the points deduction, for it come this late in the season would come as a huge frustration to the club, particularly given it has been an issue hanging over St Andrews' all campaign.
