The saga surrounding the takeover situation at Bolton Wanderers has taken another twist after the latest update from one of the journalists covering the story.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the club were granted an two week adjournment to their high court hearing over a winding up petition brought against the club by HMRC, after they revealed that they had a "mystery buyer" who would be able to payoff the debts owed by the club.

That led to many fans speculating about the identity of the interested party, and those discussions may just have changed after Bolton News reporter Marc Iles tweeted to say that the "mystery buyer" was not who he had thought.

Given it had already been reported that the buyer has a considerable stake in another football club, this latest news only looks set to ramp up speculation further.

The verdict

There seems to be no end to the soap opera that is Bolton Wanderers right now.

The two week adjournment and the news that this latest party already has a football background will bring hope to many Bolton fans, but the news that the identity of said buyer has come as a surprise even to those close to the story only adds to the uncertainty.

The positive thing for Wanderers fans at least, is that they won't have to wait long to find out who it is, at least, not by their standards.
