Millwall midfielder Jiri Skalak could leave The Den this month having failed to impress during his first six months at the club.

Journalist John Kelly, who covers the Lions for NewsAtDen, responded to a fan who asked what the potential arrival of Ben Marshall would mean for the Czech Republic international.

Marshall was at The Den on the weekend to watch Millwall take on Blackburn – two of his former sides – with speculation rife that the Norwich City man could make a sensational return to the club.

Having tweeted the Canaries winger was in London, a supporter then asked when it meant for Skalak who only signed in the summer.

To which Kelly replied he could potentially leave the club, either on loan or permanently.

Skalak has started just four times in the league since his summer move from Brighton and Hove Albion, coming on nine times from the substitutes bench.

He has one assist to his name but has failed to set The Den ablaze after the initial positivity surrounding his arrival.

Neil Harris had been chasing the Czech international for two transfer windows since the Lions returned to the second tier, and having got his man, he has failed to deliver on what was expected of him and could leave the London outfit, should Marshall return to the club.

The verdict

This is a move that just has not worked.

Harris had been after the winger but having finally got his man he has failed spectacularly to live up to the hype upon his arrival.

The 26-year-old has started cup games the same about as in the league but has failed to impress on each occasion he has featured.

This has led to the fans writing him off, and that has looked like it is affecting his confidence.

It could be time up if Marshall returns to the club, but if he does not, Skalak will have to work extremely hard to find the form that got the club interested in him in the first place.
