Stevenage's Matt Godden is close to joining Peterborough, which could be part of a chain reaction of transfers.

Alan Nixon has reported that a deal for Godden is nearly done, and suggests that he is a potential replacement for Jack Marriott considering how early this deal has been completed as well as the likelihood of him leaving Posh. The striker scored 10 league goals, so he will have a tough task to replace the prolific Marriott who scored 33 in all competitions this season.

Leeds are among a number of clubs that are interested in Marriott due to his tally of 27 goals in League One this season. The fact that he is playing in League One means that he has the potential to be a bargain because the Whites can use the difference in divisions as leverage, whereas, strikers at other Championship clubs would require more to be convinced to leave such as high wages.

The Verdict

Leeds are in desperate need of a prolific goalscorer to lead the line because they have struggled in that area ever since they sold Chris Wood to Burnley at the beginning of last season. Out of the current options, Lasogga is returning to Hamburg after failing to impress on loan at the club while Caleb Ekuban has been a flop.

Marriott would be the ideal player to bring in because he is proven in League One as well as having the determination to succeed at this level because he hasn't had a proper chance in the Championship before with Ipswich limiting him to two opportunities and he's had to work his way up the Football League ladder.

Leeds fans will be hoping that the rumours are true in regards to the links with Marriott because signing him would be a huge statement of intent from the board.
