Nottingham Forest could sign Stoke winger James McClean tomorrow as Martin O'Neill looks to work with the Irish winger once again.

Sun reporter Alan Nixon revealed on Twitter that the proposed transfer is looking increasingly likely as both clubs look ahead to what will be a busy deadline day.

O'Neill is a huge fan of the player, having initially given McClean his chance in English football with Sunderland after signing him from Derry.

And, the 29-year-old was a regular in the Irish national team when the ex-Celtic boss was in charge.

Therefore, it wouldn't be a surprise to see this transfer go through and it would end a short spell in Staffordshire for the winger.

McClean only arrived at Stoke in the summer and was a regular under Gary Rowett. However, he has failed to start a game since Nathan Jones was named as his successor earlier this month.

Providing the deal goes ahead, he could be in line to make his debut for the Reds against Birmingham this weekend.

The Verdict

This would not be a surprising move to anyone as we all know how much O'Neill rates the player.

As well as that, Jones is trying to put his own stamp on the Stoke squad and this will free up space and funds to bring in his own players.

Ultimately, it's a move that suits all parties and it's looking increasingly likely that it will go through.
