Sunderland have not followed up interest in Barnsley's Kieffer Moore with an official bid for the striker.

That's the latest from Chronicle reporter James Hunter, who was responding after Football Insider claimed the Black Cats had made a £2m move for the target man.

Moore has been a key player for Barnsley this season, weighing in with 13 goals in League One which makes him comfortably their top scorer.

Therefore, with the two clubs separated by just one point in the race for promotion to the Championship, it seemed surprising that they would do a deal for Moore.

However, Hunter provided an update on the situation through his Twitter this afternoon, where he did confirm interest from the Black Cats earlier this month, but insists no offer was made.

"Understand #safc made an initial inquiry about Kieffer Moore at the beginning of the month but that’s as far as it went. There’s been no bid."

It's no secret that Jack Ross is desperate to bring a striker to Wearside this month, particularly after news emerged yesterday revealing that top scorer Josh Maja is set to join Bordeaux.

The Verdict

This would be a very surprising move when you look at where the two sides are in the league, but money talks in football.

Either way, the latest comments from Hunter suggest that other reports are way off.

But, Sunderland do need a striker and it will be interesting to see who they do land before the deadline.
