Sheffield Wednesday should consider appointing Lee Johnson as manager, according to Sheffield Star's Chris Holt.

The Owls are searching for a new man to take charge of the first team after taking the decision to sack Garry Monk on Monday evening.

That call was made following a poor start to the season which has seen the South Yorkshire side sitting in 23rd place in the Championship ahead of the international break.

Of course their league position has been impacted by the 12-point deduction for breaching spending rules, but Chansiri was seemingly unhappy.

As a result the rumour mill is going into overdrive with regards to Monk's replacement.

Reports from The Athletic have claimed that the likes of Tony Pulis, Danny Cowley, Nigel Pearson and Sol Campbell are all potential targets for the role, however another name is also in the running.

Lee Johnson is currently out of work after being sacked by Bristol City last term.

The Robins were close to finishing in the top six under Johnson's leadership, and according to Chris Holt of the Sheffield Star, he may be the right man to take the Owls forward.

Speaking on The Star Owls Podcast, Holt said: "I like Lee Johnson, I think he’s a very good manager.

"He’s been really unlucky. He just was never able to quite take [Bristol City] that extra step up.

“I think I would like to see Lee Johnson, if I’m honest.”

The Verdict

Lee Johnson could be a great shout for the Sheffield Wednesday job.

The former Bristol City boss was on the cusp of something really special at Ashton Gate as he so nearly guided them to promotion.

It's a shame that things ended on a sour note in the end.

Johnson would be a real coup for plenty of sides in the Championship and perhaps a move to Hillsborough would be ideal in helping him pick up where he left off with the Robins.
