The takeover of Bolton Wanderers is unlikely to be completed tonight but that club have made progress in their preparations for next season.

Bolton fans have been desperate to know when the takeover deal will be completed, ever since the Football Ventures consortium were confirmed as the club's preferred bidder last week.

The Bolton News reported yesterday that the club made significant progress towards finalising the takeover over the weekend and that the deal is expected to completed within the next couple of days.

Marc Iles, chief football writer at The Bolton News, has now delivered an update on the situation on Twitter, suggesting that the takeover is unlikely to be concluded tonight.

Iles also revealed that the club have made significant progress in their recruitment plans for next season.

Bolton currently have 13 senior players and third-year scholars contracted to the club and manager Phil Parkinson faces the unenviable task of rebuilding his playing squad in time for the new season.

Iles has revealed that the club have been offered loan players from clubs in the Premier League, Championship and Scottish Premiership.

The Verdict

It's been a disastrous few months for Bolton, both on and off the field, but there finally appears to be some light at the end of the tunnel.

The club appear to have made significant progress towards completing their takeover and hopefully the deal can be finalised within the next couple of days.

I think the club have made a sensible decision in sticking with Parkinson as their manager and hopefully he can put together a squad who can compete in League One next season.

Bolton will need to rely on the loan market this summer due to their financial situation, so it's very encouraging news that they have been offered players from other clubs.
