It appears Joe Worrall will be staying at Nottingham Forest after Burnley refused to meet the asking price that was set by the Reds.

The Premier League side have had several bids already rejected for the talented centre-back with the latest believed to be around the £12m mark.

However, journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that Forest told the Lancashire club they would only accept an offer of £20m for the 21-year old which was too much for Burnley.

Worrall, who has risen through the Forest academy, expressed no desire to leave and is sure to be key to Aitor Karanka’s plans for next season as he looks to build a squad that can challenge for promotion.

The England U21 international is nearing 50 appearances for Forest in the league since breaking into the team last season and has established himself as one of the brightest prospects outside the top-flight.

He played for Forest in the win over Arsenal in the FA Cup earlier in the month and was highly influential in the 2-0 success at runaway leaders Wolves too.

The Verdict

This is a big statement of intent from Forest as the fans would’ve been gutted to lose a key player that loves playing for the side.

They have turned down a lot of money for a player who is still inexperienced, so the board deserve huge credit for that.

Now, it’s down to Worrall to continue to develop and improve under Karanka so he can help Forest have a positive end to the season.
