Sheffield Wednesday are expected to be very busy in the transfer market but no new signings are imminent.

Darren Moore has been trying to rebuild his squad following the Owls relegation to League One but it's been very tough for the ex-Doncaster chief.

Firstly, he's had to deal with a host of players leaving as their contracts expire, whilst an embargo has prevented any new arrivals coming in, with off-field issues continuing to dominate the talk surrounding the club.

And, when quizzed on potential new signings at Hillsborough, Yorkshire Live reporter Dom Howson revealed that he doesn't expect anything soon in terms of incomings.

"Nothing is close as things stand but that could change very quickly. Wednesday have a few irons in the fire for when the embargo is lifted. Moore has drawn up a list of potential targets and has made clear to the recruitment team the positions that he wants to strengthen going into the season."

The Owls are facing a battle to keep hold of certain players too, with Josh Windass one man who is attracting plenty of attention.

The verdict

This will be a frustrating update for Sheffield Wednesday fans as they will be desperate to see some new faces come in because they know how the squad are short in several areas.

Unfortunately though, these things are out of their hands now and the embargo needs to be lifted before they can do the business that Moore wants.

So, it's a case of showing patience for Wednesday but they will be missing out on targets right now and the longer they go without making new signings, the harder it will be for Moore to build a side that can win promotion next season.
