According to reliable journalist, Adam Pope, Daniel Ayala will not face any further action following an incident with Gaetano Berardi in yesterday’s clash between Leeds United and Middlesbrough.

Footage has emerged from Sunday’s clash of Ayala appearing to punch Berardi in an off the ball incident, which has led for calls from Leeds’ supporters for the Boro defender to receive punishment.

However, according to Pope, Ayala will face no further action for the incident, which the referee witnessed.

Ayala was at the centre of more than one controversial incident at Elland Road yesterday, with the 27-year-old winning Boro a penalty following another off the ball clash with Luke Ayling, who dragged the defender down after he was thrown to the ground himself.

Britt Assombalonga converted that penalty, but it was not enough to spark a Middlesbrough revival, with Leeds running out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Pablo Hernandez and Ezgjan Alioski.

Despite that defeat Boro remained in the Championship’s top-six, and will be looking to return to winning ways this Wednesday when they face Birmingham City at the Riverside Stadium.

Ayala will be in line for his eighth Championship appearance of the season.

The Verdict

This is a surprising update, as the incident between Ayala and Berardi probably warranted further punishment, as it did not look like an accident.

Garry Monk will be pleased to learn of this latest update, as there must have been fear within the Boro camp that the defender was set to receive a ban.
