Leeds United are looking to move on keeper Felix Wiedwald after the German stopper endured a very tough first season in English football.

Having signed from Werder Bremen last summer, Thomas Christiansen saw Wiedwald as the ideal man to replace Rob Green who was a surprising departure from Elland Road.

However, things didn't go to plan for the keeper who was dropped for Andy Lonergan after a series of high-profile errors. Unfortunately for the Whites, the former Preston man didn't fare much better meaning Weiedwald won his place back.

Yet that poor form continued under Paul Heckingbotton who made the decision to drop the 28-year old for youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell who has been superb since coming into the team.

Therefore, Wiedwald was expected to leave the Yorkshire club this summer and local journalist Phil Hay confirmed the news on his twitter that he is a player Leeds are looking to move on.

A big clearout is expected at Leeds in the summer with the likes of Pawel Cibicki and Hadi Sacko others that should depart.

The Verdict

This isn't news that's going to surprise many Leeds fans as it became clear very quickly that Wiedwald was not suited to English football.

Quite simply, he made too many errors and didn't look anywhere near good enough.

With Bailey Peacock-Farrell showing real promise and another keeper sure to arrive as competition it makes sense to let Wiedwald go.
