Swansea City are yet to reach a decision as to who will become their next manager, but hope to reach a decision this week, according to respected journalist Alan Nixon.

The Swans have been searching for a new manager for three weeks now, after Graham Potter left the club to join Brighton last month.

It was reported last week that World Cup-winning England Under-17 coach Steve Cooper is a leading contender for the role, having impressed during his interview and WalesOnline reported over the weekend that he is the new front-runner for the job.

Nixon delivered the latest update on Twitter, confirming that the owners are yet to decide on whether to appoint Cooper and that the club may appoint another manager on their three-man shortlist.

Potter was able to guide Swansea to a tenth-placed finish in the Championship last season and led the club to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The Verdict

This is an interesting update from Nixon, as at one point it looked as though Cooper was the favourite to get the job.

Cooper is an experienced coach and could be a good appointment for Swansea. He has clearly impressed the owners during his interview and has done very well to get to this stage of the selection process.

Of course, he has no experience of managing in the Championship, so his appointment would have to be considered a big risk, but he deserves to get his chance at some point and this could be a brilliant opportunity for him.
