Derby County will not be signing midfielder Ferdi Kadıoğlu from Fenerbahce this month.

The Dutchman is known to boss Phillip Cocu having come through the ranks at Nijmegen before securing a switch to the Rams boss' former club in Istanbul at the start of the season.

Therefore, it had been suggested in the Turkish media that Kadıoğlu could join the Championship side as Cocu looks to strengthen his squad for the remainder of the campaign.

Yet, The Athletic reporter Ryan Conway made it perfectly clear on Twitter that there is no truth to the rumours indicating a move is in the pipeline when responding to a question from a fan.

"ZEEERRROOOOOO truth. Spoken to sources close to the player and club three times this month. Head shaking each and every time."

Kadıoğlu has played eight times for the Turkish giants in the league this season, scoring two goals, as they sit fourth in the top-flight and six points behind leaders Sivasspor.

Cocu's options in midfield have been boosted by the arrival of the versatile Wayne Rooney who was registered to play from the start of January.

The verdict

This update shows that Derby won't be signing the talented midfielder and whilst he would've been a good addition, it did seem highly unlikely.

Kadıoğlu has only just signed for Fenerbahce and appears to be doing quite well, whilst the Rams weren't going to spend the £10m suggested fee in this window.

Derby are sure to be active in the window though and it will be interesting to see who is brought in.
