Thomas Christiansen has met his former Leeds United players today to say his goodbyes following his sacking over the weekend, as reported by Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Leeds moved swiftly to sack Christiansen following Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Cardiff City, with confirmation coming on Sunday evening that the Dane’s time at Elland Road was up.

Following Christiansen’s unsurprising departure, Leeds moved quickly to seek a replacement, with it expected that an announcement will be made today that Paul Heckingbottom is the new Elland Road boss, after the Whites met the release clause in his Barnsley contract.

Heckingbottom should take first-team training today at Thorp Arch, but has been joined by Christiansen at Leeds’ training base over the course of this morning, with the former head-coach saying his goodbyes to his playing squad following his dismissal.

Christiansen leaves Leeds 10th in the Championship table, with Heckingbottom set to inherit a squad that are low on numbers and confidence, with a string of injuries and suspensions coinciding with a horrific run of results.

Leeds are without a victory since Boxing Day, which has left them seven points adrift of the play-off places.

The Verdict

Christiansen was a popular figure at Elland Road, but ultimately he wasn’t the man to take Leeds any further forward.

It is a mark of the respect he had for the club that he has gone in to say his goodbyes, and plenty of Leeds’ supporters will move to wish him well in the future.
