Newly-appointed Nottingham Forest manager Martin O'Neill wants a few days to assess his squad before making any decisions regarding transfers, according to reports from Nottingham Post journalist Paul Taylor.

The 66-year old took the reins of the East Midlands club on Tuesday afternoon, and returns to the club that he made over 285 appearances for, during a ten-year stint at the City Ground.

The former Republic of Ireland manager has already been in the midst of a couple of transfer deals, with reports suggesting that Forest's Championship rivals Wigan Athletic have submitted a bid to sign defender Danny Fox.

But reports from Taylor now suggest that O'Neill will not entertain any potential deals just yet, as the experienced manager wants a chance to form an opinion on his squad, before dealing with ingoings and outgoings.

Reports have also recently surfaced that O'Neill wants to bring defender Joe Worrall back to the City Ground this month - the young defender has been impressive on loan at Glasgow Rangers this season, but it remains to be seen if he decides to recall the centre-half from his spell at Ibrox, after this latest transfer stance.

Forest face play-off rivals Bristol City at the City Ground this weekend, with the Reds sitting four points off the play-offs in 9th position in the Sky Bet Championship table.

The Verdict

This is a fair admission by O'Neill.

He's only just arrived at the City Ground, so to make any drastic deals straight away would be bizarre, especially for an impressive, regular performer like Fox.

It'll be interesting to see who he gets rid of this month.
