Leeds United were handed a major boost today with the news that star midfielder Pablo Hernandez has signed a new deal at the club.

He has been a key man for the Yorkshire club in the past few months even if the team have struggled since the turn of the year.

However, the 32-year old won't be going on the controversial post-season tour to Myanmar as his wife is due to give birth in the coming weeks.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil hay revealed the news after speaking to Hernandez at a press conference today ahead of Saturday's game at Norwich.

The decision to go to Myanmar has been met by widespread criticism from the whole football community, not just Leeds fans.

The Southeast Asian nation has well-documented issues with the government and it's own people, with the Foreign Office advising against all but essential travel to the country.

Despite that, Whites chairman Andrea Radrizzani has confirmed the club will go on the tour with the aim of helping the local community and raising Leeds' profile in the area.

The Verdict

Hernandez thoroughly deserves his new deal and it's obviously a great time for him with his wife expecting to have a baby.

Understandably, that means he won't go on tour and we can't imagine he is too disappointed with that.

Leeds have deservedly come in for criticism for their decision and it's highly likely that the rest of the team are hoping it doesn't go ahead.
