According to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s, Phil Hay, Souleymane Doukara is attracting interest from Leeds United’s Sky Bet Championship rivals, Barnsley.

Doukara has just one-year remaining on his contract at Elland Road, and has not featured so far during the 2017/18 season under Thomas Christiansen.

According to reports, there is interest in the forward from Paul Heckingbottom's, Barnsley, along with clubs in Turkey and Italy.

The 25-year-old was set to be involved for the first time this season for Leeds in the Carabao Cup tie with Newport County, but interest from elsewhere in the player means the likelihood is that he will miss out.

Doukara has had a mixed career so far at Elland Road, having arrived in West Yorkshire ahead of the 2014/15 campaign, as part of Massimo Cellino’s grand plan.

The Frenchman has made 93 appearances across all competitions for Leeds, scoring on 18 occasions, including 14 in the Championship.

Doukara’s most influential goalscoring season at Elland Road was his first, but his all round performance improved last season under Garry Monk, as Leeds finished the 2016/17 campaign seventh.

Doukara made 39 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring six goals for Leeds in the Championship.

The Verdict

Thomas Christiansen has changed a number of things at Elland Road since his arrival, with Doukara’s future at Leeds looking bleak.

The French forward impressed last season and earned the respect of many supporters with his committed performances under Monk.

A move to across the Championship would be good for the player, and should Barnsley be successful in their attempts to sign Doukara, the Tykes would be getting a powerful striker who is constantly improving.
