Jason Steele and Lewis Grabban are set for medicals at Sunderland today, ahead of their respective moves to the Stadium of Light, according to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie.

Simon Grayson is set to add further depth to his Sunderland squad, with the imminent arrivals on Steele on a permanent deal from Blackburn Rovers and Grabban on-loan from AFC Bournemouth.

Steele made 41 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship last season for Blackburn, but the goalkeeper could not prevent the Lancashire club suffering relegation into League One.

Grabban also had a brief spell in the Championship last season, spending the second-half of the campaign on-loan with Reading, where he made 19 appearances and scored three goals, helping Jaap Stam’s side reach the play-off final.

The striker’s opportunities with Bournemouth seem limited, and Grayson is looking to add Grabban to bolster his attacking options, which include fellow new arrivals, Aiden McGeady and James Vaughan.

The arrival of Steele and Grabban is likely to fill the hole left by Jordan Pickford and Jermain Defoe, who were both high-profile departures from the Stadium of Light earlier this summer.

Pickford moved to Everton for a fee that could rise to £30m, whilst Defoe moved to Grabban’s parent-club, Bournemouth.
