Marcus Antonsson’s move to Malmo looks set to go ahead, with the striker set to cut ties with Leeds United after two years at Elland Road.

According to Phil Hay at the Yorkshire Evening Post, Antonsson is set to depart Elland Road for Malmo, returning to Sweden despite interest from Serie B outfit, Brescia.

Leeds will allow the 27-year-old to depart on a permanent deal this summer, cutting all ties with the striker, who joined on a three-year deal under Garry Monk back in the summer of 2016.

Antonsson made 21 appearances across all competitions during the 2016/17 campaign, with 16 of those coming in the Championship.

He returned three goals under Monk, but was used sparingly during the second-half of the season.

With Antonsson not featuring in Leeds’ plans for the 2017/18 campaign, he linked up with Blackburn Rovers.

Under Tony Mowbray, Antonsson featured regularly, scoring eight goals as Blackburn secured promotion from League One.

Despite a decent loan spell away from Elland Road, he doesn’t fit in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans for the new season, with the striker on the verge of becoming the latest player to leave Leeds.

The Verdict

It hasn’t really happened for Antonsson in English football, with the striker not quite finding his best in the English game.

A move back to Sweden makes sense, with Antonsson suited to the style of football there.

Moving him on permanently is a huge boost for Leeds, who have lost a lot of players on-loan this summer.
