Bristol City have held talks with Joe Pigott, however a deal for the striker doesn’t look close at the moment.
That’s according to Gregor MacGregor, who spoke about City’s interest in the former AFC Wimbledon forward in a Bristol Live Q&A session (13:25pm) yesterday.
Pigott is a free agent attracting plenty of interest, having recently bid farewell to Wimbledon upon the expiry of his contract.
Quiz: What was the score the last time Bristol City played each of these 25 teams?
The 27-year-old scored an impressive 22 goals in all competitions last season, with 20 of those strikes coming in League One as the Dons avoided the drop.
Pigott, who scored 54 goals in 157 games for Wimbledon, is now searching for a new club, and according to Gregor MacGregor, City are among those to have held talks with the forward.
At this moment in time, though, a deal doesn’t look to be close, as Nigel Pearson continues to scan the market for strikers.
City let Famara Diedhiou leave at the end of his contract, and will be looking to replace his firepower in the final third ahead of next season.
For me, Pigott is a bit of a no-brainer of a signing on a free transfer.
He’s scored plenty of important goals for Wimbledon despite their struggles in League One over the last few years, and 22 goals in all competitions for a bottom-half side is impressive.
He possesses plenty of physical prowess, and at 27, he is also entering his prime. It could be a shrewd bit of business for whoever signs him this summer, and would be worth a punt for sure.
