Reliable journalist, Alan Nixon, has cast doubt over Alan Hutton’s potential move to Sheffield Wednesday by claiming that completing a deal will not be easy.

Nixon confirmed earlier this week that Wednesday were interested in signing the Aston Villa right-back, with the position an area that Carlos Carvalhal is keen to strengthen over the summer.

Despite those reports, recent updates indicate a deal is not close between the Owls and Villa – who are likely to demand a fee for the 32-year old, to boost their own transfer funds.

Carlos Carvalhal is looking to make the necessary changes to his Wednesday squad over the course of the summer, with the hope he can help end the Owls’ wait for a Premier League return, which is set to stretch into an 18th season.

Wednesday appear short of options in defence, particularly at centre-back, where Glenn Loovens and Tom Lees are Carvalhal’s only recognised options heading into next season.

However, Carvalhal’s interest in Hutton indicates that the Portuguese manager is keen to add a right-back to his squad to compete with the impressive Jack Hunt.

Carvalhal has made just one signing so far this summer, bringing Burnley’s George Boyd to Hillsborough on a free transfer.
